Probability

An equal split is one pair of chances, 0.50 and 0.50. The other pair, 0.25 and 0.75, is an uneven split on the same scale, and each pair adds to 1.

A probability, on this shelf, is the chance of one measurement outcome, a number from 0 to 1. For a qubit it is the square of the size of the matching amplitude. The chances of 0 and 1 add to 1 because the qubit will read as one of those two.

Equal chances are the case everyone arrives with, and they are one point on a longer scale of possible squares. Malcolm would like that second fact on the wall above the kettle, where the fair-coin story usually starts.
