Nerd notes

Read them in order

Each note is a short read and ends with a check you can run. Read them in the order shown. The level says how much maths a note needs, so a Level 1 note can follow a Level 2 one.

Level 1, Curious

One qubit, and numbers you can square by hand. A bit is a switch that is only ever 0 or 1, a measurement returns one of those and replaces the amplitudes, and noise scrambles the sign while the chances can still be estimated.

Level 2, Tinkerer

A gate rewrites the amplitudes, and the order of the gates changes the signs you finish with. On the shared pair the two wires always agree, and the agreement shows only once the bits are side by side. Each wire read on its own is still a fair toss.

In reading order

  1. 1. A bit is a switch Level 1, Curious
  2. 2. Measurement replaces the amplitudes Level 1, Curious
  3. 3. The sign is what cancels Level 2, Tinkerer
  4. 4. Noise scrambles the sign Level 1, Curious
  5. 5. The left-hand gate runs first Level 2, Tinkerer
  6. 6. Both readings were written on the same line Level 2, Tinkerer
