Collapse

Before the click the chances are 0.36 and 0.64. This drawing follows a click that returned 1, after which the amplitudes are the certain state just read.

Collapse is the name often given to the change at a measurement, when the amplitudes are replaced by the state just read. The apparatus records one bit, and an immediate second click in the same arrangement repeats that bit.

A story asks for a person to stare before the state will collapse. A photodiode or a resonator is enough for the laboratory account. Once the outcome is copied into the apparatus, the cancellations between 0 and 1 are gone whether or not anyone reads the record.
